Equator College, formerly known as Equator Academy of Art, was established in 1987 and has grown into a recognised brand name in art, media and design education in northern Malaysia. With more than three decades of experience, the college continues to nurture creative talent through a blend of technical skills, disciplined practice, creative exploration and professional industry knowledge.
The college has two campuses situated in the heart of George Town, Penang: the Leith Street Campus and the Amoy Lane Campus. Its programmes are designed to provide students with structured learning, practical training and industry-relevant exposure to meet the demands of the art, media, design and creative industries.
Equator College emphasises a student-centred approach to teaching and learning. Classes are kept intentionally focused to support more personalised guidance, allowing lecturers to better understand each student’s individual creative style and development. The academic team includes trained local and international lecturers, many of whom bring professional experience from their respective creative fields.
Beyond classroom learning, Equator College provides a conducive environment for students to develop their creative and technical abilities. Its facilities include computer and multimedia studios, art and design studios, a photographic studio, specialised workshops, a library and a gallery space for displaying student work. Students also have access to WiFi facilities and campus spaces that support both academic and creative activities.
Equator College’s listed programmes are approved by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), with accreditation or approval by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) where applicable.

Both the Leith Street and Amoy Lane campuses are fully air-conditioned and located within George Town, Penang. Equator College provides lecture rooms and halls, computer and multimedia studios, art and design studios, a photographic studio and specialised workshops to support students across different creative disciplines.
Facilities include a well-equipped library, gallery space for student work, and free high-speed WiFi access for staff and students. These resources help students develop both creative thinking and technical competency in a supportive learning environment.
For recreation, students can enjoy indoor facilities such as pool and ping pong tables. Student clubs, societies and activities also provide opportunities for students to interact, collaborate and build confidence beyond the classroom. Hostel facilities are provided on a needs basis, and student counselling support is available for both local and international students.
