Biochemistry examines the chemical processes that occur within living organisms. Advances in scientific techniques have expanded its applications across genetic engineering, molecular bioengineering, physiology and medicine.
The Bachelor of Science (Honours) Biochemistry responds to the growing demand for bioscience expertise. Students investigate biological processes in animals, plants and microorganisms across different levels of biological organisation.
Scientific theory is supported by experiments, practical sessions and laboratory projects, helping students understand the chemistry of living systems. The programme also covers molecular biology, biotechnology and genetic engineering.
Biochemistry connects with many other biological disciplines and forms an important foundation for bioinformatics, which combines biological science with computer technology.
