Biomedical engineering applies engineering science and technology to solve problems in medicine and biology. It supports the healthcare industry through the design and development of medical equipment, health systems and related information technology solutions.
Applications include the development of medical devices, diagnostic systems, artificial prostheses and artificial organs.
The Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering with Honours develops knowledge in engineering design, biomedical treatment and diagnostics, mathematical modelling, computational techniques and programming, including artificial intelligence.
Students are also introduced to biomedical instrumentation, biomedical signal processing, medical imaging, biomechanics, biomaterials and biological principles for biomedical engineering applications in clinical and healthcare environments.
Formerly known as Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Biomedical Engineering.
