Course Overview

The Bachelor of Counseling with Honours program aims to produce counselors capable of providing high-quality counseling services to those in need, including individual, group, couple, and family counseling, as well as various other forms of guidance. This program serves as a pathway to developing competent counselors.

Designed according to the guidelines set by the Counselor Board of Malaysia for counselor training standards and qualifications, the program ensures that graduates meet the required criteria for competency. This aligns with the government’s efforts to increase the number of trained counselors to meet national needs.

The program emphasizes counseling skills in both individual and group sessions. Mastery of these skills enables counselors to deliver more effective counseling services, thereby enhancing community well-being.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements:

SPM

  • Possess the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) with at least:
    • Grade C in Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Melayu (July Paper).
    • Grade E in Sejarah (History) from the year 2013 onwards.

AND

STPM

  • Pass the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) with at least:
    • A minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00.
    • Grade C in Pengajian Am (General Studies).
    • TWO (2) Grade Cs in any other subjects not already counted.

AND

MUET

  • Obtain at least Band 1.0 in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for examinations starting from Session 1 of 2021, with a validity period of 5 years from the date the test results are released.

Specific Requirements:

  • Obtain a minimum CGPA of 2.67 at the STPM level.
  • Obtain at least a Grade C in Mathematics M at the STPM level.

OR:

  • Obtain at least a Grade D in Mathematics at the SPM level.
  • Obtain at least Band 2.0 in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for results obtained from Session 1 of 2021 onwards, with a validity period of 5 years from the date the test results are released.
  • Obtain at least a Grade D in the English subject at the SPM level.
  • Pass the test and/or interview set by the Public University.
