Course Overview

The Department of Accounting aims to produce accounting graduates who are professionally competent and observe ethical norms. As such, the accounting curriculum has been designed to provide the conceptual framework of accounting by integrating components of Islamic and accounting knowledge. In addition, the programme offers elective courses in specific areas of accounting to meet the need for accounting with an Islamic perspective such as Accounting for Islamic Banks, Zakat Accounting and Accounting, Auditing & Governance of Islamic Financial Institutions. The programme has been granted maximum exemption of examination papers by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and the CPA (Australia). 

Graduates of IIUM, within 3-5 years after graduation, will be expected to become:

? Accounting practitioners who apply fundamental knowledge and practical skills in contributing to the betterment of the private and public organisations globally.

? Accounting practitioners who lead and effectively communicate with team members in solving workplace and professional issues.

? Accounting practitioners who demonstrate strong Islamic values encompassing professional and ethical responsibilities to the profession, society and the environment.

? Accounting practitioners who continuously enhance their professional skills through lifelong learning and professional development.

The graduates with three years of experience in accounting are recognized by the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) for entry as Chartered Accountants (CA). 

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

SPM

Applicants must possess the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) with at least the following results:

• Grade C in Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Melayu (July Paper).
• Grade E in Sejarah (History) starting from the 2013 examination year.

AND

STPM

Applicants must pass the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) with at least the following:

• A minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00.
• Grade C in General Studies (Pengajian Am).
• TWO (2) Grade C passes in any other subjects not already counted.

AND

MUET

Applicants must obtain at least Band 1.0 in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for examinations starting from Session 1, 2021, with results valid for five (5) years from the date the results are released.

Special Requirements

• Obtain a minimum STPM CGPA of 3.00.
• Obtain at least Grade B in ONE (1) of the following subjects at STPM level:
  • Economics
  • Accounting
  • Mathematics M / Mathematics T
  • Business Studies (Pengajian Perniagaan)
• Obtain at least Grade C in ONE (1) of the following subjects at SPM level:
  • Islamic Education
  • Moral Education
  • Maharat Al-Quran
  • Manahij Al-‘Ulum Al-Islamiah
  • Al-Quran and Al-Sunnah Education
  • Al-Syariah
  • Hifz Al-Quran
  • Islamic Shariah Education
  • Tasawwur Islam
  • Turath Al-Quran and Al-Sunnah
  • Turath Dirasat Islamiah
  • Usul Al-Din
• Obtain at least Band 3.5 in MUET for results obtained from Session 1, 2021 onwards, with results valid for five (5) years from the date of release.

Notes

Candidates who are accepted and register as students must sit for English and Arabic language proficiency tests administered by IIUM (UIAM).

Students must meet the required language proficiency levels before being allowed to proceed with their studies at the Kulliyyah / Faculty level.
